Does GTA 6 have online? What Rockstar, Sony and Take-Two have said
GTA VI comes out on 19 November as a single-player experience: Rockstar, the PlayStation Store and the Xbox store all say so. No online mode has been announced. This is what there is, what happens to GTA Online, and what Rockstar did with its last two games.

No, at least not at launch. GTA VI comes out on 19 November as a single-player game, and no official source mentions an online mode.
What each official source says
| Who | What it says |
|---|---|
| Rockstar, on its Newswire | “Grand Theft Auto VI is a single player experience” |
| PlayStation, in its FAQ | To “Does Grand Theft Auto VI have any multiplayer modes or features?” it answers: “Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience” |
| PlayStation Store | “1 player”, “Offline play enabled” and “a single-player experience” |
| Xbox store | Capabilities: “Single player” |
Rockstar’s sentence is in the pre-order announcement, in the same paragraph as the date and platforms Confirmed Rockstar Newswire. PlayStation’s question and answer are on the game’s page Confirmed PlayStation, and the rest on the two stores’ listings Confirmed PlayStation Store Confirmed Xbox.
What that means, and what it does not
It means the game that comes out in November is a campaign, and that you do not need a connection to play it: the PlayStation Store lists it as playable offline.
It does not mean Rockstar has ruled out online in the future. Every one of those sentences describes what comes out on 19 November. About what comes after, nobody has said anything, for or against.
What about GTA Online?
GTA Online, the GTA V one, carries on. At the 17 September shareholder meeting, Take-Two’s chief executive Strauss Zelnick reminded attendees that GTA VI is a single-player game and that GTA Online remains a robust business the company will keep supporting Reported PC Gamer Reported GamingBolt.
That is why the month of GTA+ that comes with a digital GTA VI pre-order is for GTA Online: what Rockstar lists are GTA Online perks and its games library, nothing inside GTA VI. We cover it in the price and editions guide.
What Rockstar did with its last two games
| Game launch | Online launch | Wait | |
|---|---|---|---|
| GTA V and GTA Online | 17 September 2013 | 1 October 2013 | Two weeks |
| RDR2 and Red Dead Online | 26 October 2018 | 27 November 2018As a beta | One month |
| GTA VI | 19 November 2026 | Not announced | — |
GTA Online arrived two weeks after GTA V Reported Game File, and Red Dead Online opened its beta a month after Red Dead Redemption 2 Confirmed Rockstar Newswire.
A rumour: multiplayer in 2027. Twitch’s chief executive, Dan Clancy, told Bloomberg that, having talked with Rockstar about its plans, he expects an even bigger bump “next year when they launch multiplayer” Rumour VGC. He did not say whether that was information or a guess, and Rockstar has said nothing about it: we treat it as a rumour of medium reliability.
